PASSION IS NOT PROTECTION. Every youth movement faces two existential threats: predatory behavior and legal liability. Most organizers wait until a tragedy happens to write their rules. We wrote the rules to prevent the tragedy.
This is the Student Safety Standard: a comprehensive, open-source safety architecture designed to protect students from misconduct and protect organizers from negligence. We are making it available for free.
THE 3 CORE PILLARS
1. THE “CC” RULE (NO PRIVATE DMs) We strictly prohibit one-on-one direct messages between adults and students. All digital communication must include a 3rd party (parent, guardian, or safety officer). If it can’t be said in front of a witness, it won’t be said at all.
2. THE RIGHT TO RECORD We operate with zero expectation of privacy. We explicitly authorize and encourage students to audio/video record any interaction with an adult leader. Transparency is our only shield.
3. PARENTAL KEYS Parents are not outsiders; they are the ultimate authority. Parents retain the right to audit group chats, view message history, and access the “back end” of our communications at any time.
OPEN SOURCE RESOURCES
We have made our legal and cultural tools open source. We are not asking for credit; we are asking for safety.
- The Membership Agreement: A robust liability waiver that codifies the “No Secrets” policy, protects the organization from negligence claims, and establishes the “Sole Moderator” safety protocols.
- “The Yellow” Card: A pocket manifesto for students that teaches them “No” is a complete sentence and empowers them to reject grooming behavior.
